Giant Pencil Sharpener?

 

Hi Folks,

A couple of days ago, Louie Pastore sent us some photographs of a conical cooking pot on Whitelees Moor near Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland.

The photos are already on BRAC

We normally call these kind of carvings basins, mortars or, like in Ireland, Bullaun Stones but this one is of a different shape; like a giant pencil sharpener with a diameter of 20 cm and a depth of 6 cm.

Do we have a clue? Have we seen this shape before and, if so, where?
